Gilbert named one of nation's best places
Gilbert has been selected as the 28th best small city in the nation,
according to Money magazine's latest rankings. The publication's August
issue rated the Town highly while noting the community once known as the
"hay capital of the world" is now one of the nation's fastest growing
places.
Money pointed to quality of life issues like the Freestone Recreation Center
and schools that consistently perform well. It also pointed to new
amenities, such as the San Tan Village regional mall, a planned Temple for
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and efforts to celebrate the
historic charm of the Heritage District.
Gilbert was ranked the highest of the four communities in Arizona that made
Money's list.
Gilbert stood out among the other top 100 communities in several ways. For
example, jobs grew by nearly 40 percent from 2000 to 2007, compared with
about 19 percent for the other top-scoring cities. The magazine noted
several interesting demographic facts:
* 75 percent of residents have attended college or earned a degree.
* 67 percent of residents are married.
* 29.9 is the average age of a Gilbert resident.
