History of Blackfoot, Idaho

Blackfoot is a city in Bingham County, Idaho|Bingham County, Idaho, United States. As of the 2005 census, the city population was 10,646. The city is the county seat of Bingham County, Idaho|Bingham County.{{GR|6}} Blackfoot is designated the "Potato Capital of the World", because it has the largest potato industry in the world.{{fact|date=April 2007}} It is home to the Idaho Potato Expo (a museum and gift shop that displays and explains the history of Idaho's potato industry), which is home to the world's largest baked potato and potato chips|potato chip. Tourists who visit the museum can obtain "free taters for out-of-staters". Blackfoot is also home to the Eastern Idaho State Fair, which operates between Labor Day weekend and the following weekend.

Blackfoot is the principal city of the Blackfoot, ID United States micropolitan area|Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Bingham County.
