History of Wayne, New Jersey
Wayne is a Township (New Jersey)|township in Passaic County, New Jersey|Passaic County, New Jersey, United States, located less than 20 miles from midtown Manhattan. As of the United States 2000 Census, the township had a total population of 54,069.

Wayne was formed as a township by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 12, 1847, from portions of Manchester Township, Passaic County, New Jersey (Historical)|Manchester Township. Totowa, New Jersey|Totowa was formed from portions of Manchester and Wayne Townships on March 15, 1898."The Story of New Jersey's Civil Boundaries: 1606-1968", John P.
