Oklahoma City is the capital and the most populous city of the United States|U.S. U.S. state|state of Oklahoma. It is also the county seat of {{USCity|Oklahoma County|Oklahoma}}. Oklahoma City was founded during the Land Run of 1889, first of five land runs in what became Oklahoma.

Oklahoma City was the site of the Oklahoma City bombing|bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in 1995, the largest act of terrorism on American soil prior to the September 11, 2001 attacks and the most destructive act of domestic terrorism in American history.

The city is also characterized by its location in America's Tornado Alley, which is frequently visited in the springtime by violent thunderstorms producing damaging winds, very large hail and tornadoes.
