History of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

Mount Pleasant is a town in Charleston County, South Carolina|Charleston County, South Carolina, in the United States. It is the fourth largest city in South Carolina. As of 2006, the town had an estimated population of 62,000. As defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, Mount Pleasant is included within the Charleston-North Charleston Urbanized Area and the Charleston-North Charleston Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is the 3rd largest city in this metro behind Charleston, South Carolina|Charleston and North Charleston, South Carolina|North Charleston.

At the foot of the Cooper River Bridge lies Patriot's Point, a naval and maritime museum, home to the World War II aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-10)|USS Yorktown, which is now a museum ship. Mount Pleasant is also home to I'On Community, Mt. Pleasant, SC|I'On Community, a mixed-use New Urbanist development.
