Hot Springs is the warmest place in South Dakota with an annual mean temperature of 64F. Some of the attractions in the Hot Springs area are The Mammoth Site which is arguably America’s greatest Ice Age treasure, Evans Plunge and its naturally warm 87 degree spring water, and the town is located less than an hour from Mount Rushmore National Monument. Hot Springs holds the annual Miss South Dakota pageant.

Hot Springs is also the home of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (Black Hills Healthcare System - Hot Springs Campus). The Center boasts extensive outpatient treatment, acute hospital care and a 100 bed Domiciliary that houses at PTSD Treatment ward and alcohol and drug treatment facility.
