Tennessee
Tennessee, the 16th state in the Union, became known as "The Volunteer State," when volunteer soldiers from Tennessee displayed exceptional valor in the Battle of New Orleans (War of 1812). Today Tennessee is the home of almost 6 million residents.
Tennessee offers a wide variety of recreation all year round. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee is the most visited national park in the U.S., and Tennessee also contains the National Civil Rights Museum, and the largest underground lake in the nation. Although Tennessee is fairly warm year round, residents can go skiing any month of the year they choose, on the world's largest artificial skiing surface (which is 5 acres).
