It is the principal city of the Morristown, Tennessee Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Grainger County, Tennessee|Grainger, Hamblen and Jefferson County, Tennessee|Jefferson counties. It is the county seat of Hamblen County, Tennessee|Hamblen County{{GR|6}}.
