A Village in Pigeon Forge
Here is an interesting article I found on www.wate.com about a new developement in Pigeon Forge. Check it out:
"PIGEON FORGE (WATE) -- Officials held a 'Top Off' ceremony Tuesday for a
massive development underway in Pigeon Forge.
Belle Island Village <http://www.belleisland.com/> , on Smoky Drive,
will cover 26 acres with hotels, shops and rides.
The development is a $114 million investment and Pigeon Forge tourism
officials are hoping it will bring a high rate of return.
'The more you have to do in an area, the whole pool rises. And you'll
continue to grow,' says developer Glen Bilbo.
With attractions ranging from a Debbie Reynolds Hollywood Motion Picture
Museum <http://www.belleisland.com/motion-picture-museum.asp> for movie
lovers and a Darrell Waltrip's Racing Experience for NASCAR fans,
<http://www.belleisland.com/racing-experience.asp> tourism officials
hope to draw in a diverse crowd of over 2 million visitors a year.
That's in addition to the 11 million people a year who visit Pigeon
Forge.
Those visitors will have lots of places to spend money.
'They just have a phenomenal mix here of taking something that we all
love, like movies and NASCAR, and putting it into one attraction. That's
going to be a huge magnet,' says Susan Whitaker, with the Tennessee
Department of Tourist Development.
Representatives of Belle Island Village estimate it will employ about
1,200 people for its more than 90 shops, a dozen restaurants and several
entertainment facilities.
That will also give the local economy a boost.
'They are going to need a lot of people hired to start working here.
There are a lot of opportunities for entrepreneurs and for folks
starting stores,' Whitaker says.
The village is slated to open this fall."
Look forward to more articles about Pigeon Forge on my site each month
