History of Arlington, Texas

Arlington is a city in Tarrant County, Texas|Tarrant County, Texas (United States|USA) within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex|Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area. As of the United States Census 2000|2000 census, the city population was 332,969 (though a July 1, 2004 estimate placed the city's population at 359,467). Arlington is the seventh-largest city in the state and the List of United States cities by population|fiftieth largest city in the United States.

Located approximately {{convert|12|mi|km|0|lk=on}} east of downtown Fort Worth, Texas|Fort Worth and {{convert|20|mi|km|0}} west of downtown Dallas|downtown Dallas, Texas|Dallas, Arlington is home to the Texas Rangers (baseball)|Texas Rangers' Ballpark in Arlington and the theme parks Six Flags Over Texas, which is the original Six Flags, and Hurricane Harbor. The Dallas Cowboys' Dallas Cowboys New Stadium|new stadium will also be located in Arlington. The city borders Kennedale, Texas|Kennedale, Grand Prairie, Texas|Grand Prairie, Mansfield, Texas|Mansfield and Fort Worth, Texas|Fort Worth, and surrounds the smaller communities of Dalworthington Gardens, Texas|Dalworthington Gardens and Pantego, Texas|Pantego.
