The town was first officially established in 1895, rumored to be named for the M-K-T Railroad, and was incorporated as Katy, Texas in 1945.  Today, many of the original homes and buildings still stand in Katy, notated by official historical markers that make a quick tour of the town a fun, easy experience.  Katy, Texas also has its modern side, demonstrated by the headquarters of the Igloo corporation, producers of cooling and portable refrigeration products.
