History of Parkersburg, West Virginia
Parkersburg is a city located in Wood County, West Virginia|Wood County, West Virginia, United States at the confluence (geography)|confluence of the Ohio River|Ohio and Little Kanawha River|Little Kanawha Rivers. It is the county seat of Wood County{{GR|6}}. As of the United States 2000 Census|2000 census, the city had a total population of 33,099, making it the third-largest city in West Virginia, behind Charleston, West Virginia|Charleston and Huntington, West Virginia|Huntington. Parkersburg is the largest city in the Parkersburg-Marietta, Ohio|Marietta-Vienna, West Virginia|Vienna Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The Bureau of the Public Debt, an agency of the U.S. Treasury Department, is located in Parkersburg.
